BEAUFORT RFC UNDER FOURTEENS - PRESENTATION OF AWARDS SEASON 2011/12

Club Secretary Huw Lewis welcomed families and friends of the junior squad to a buffet supper arranged for the presentation of awards on Saturday last. The occasion was well supported. He said that the juniors represented   the future of the club and he hoped they would go on to play at senior level particularly with the Beaufort senior team.   He also welcomed  local hero and Welsh rugby international  Huw Bennett who had kindly agreed to present the squad with their awards

Before doing so Robert Hale and Stewart Nash, club coaches and mentors to the team , thanked  all those who had supported the club during the season past .In recognition  for their stalwart services gifts were presented  to   Joanna Nash, Julie Hale for their loyal service  particularly in  the kitchen, Ian Bayliss  for the  medical  services rendered,  his daughter  Chloe for assisting with the raffles,  and Jonathan “Billie” Thomas for his loyal  touchline support. They also said a great debt of gratitude was also owed to Huw Lewis for his help and advice in the season and as always his continued support of the junior side.

Also a special award was given to Simon Rees a premiership referee who sacrificed his Sunday time to officiate at the home games for which the players and coaches were grateful and for his valuable service and advice
 The juniors had played 25 games won 14 and lost 11.  The leading try scorers were Ieuan Jones (16) , Joel Harries (18)   Aaron Boulter (19) and top try scorer for the second successive year Rhys Bayliss  (31)
During the season five players were invited to join the ranks of Gwent Dragon Junior squad which were Jack Sewell, Finlay Nash, Aaron Boulter, Rhys Bayliss and Ryan Davies.
Plaques were then presented to the whole squad all of whom were present:-
Corrie Morris. Lloyd Barlett, Tom Morgan, Aaron Boulter, Ryan Hale, Jacob Smith, Jack Sewell, Ryan  Davies, Daffyd Watkins, Joel Harries, Finley Nash, Rhys Bayliss, Morgan Woodland, Owain Preece, Ieuan Jones, Tom Williams, Ciaran Gooding, Dylan Thomas, Chris Follis, Josh Hodson
Finley Nash the outgoing captain paid tribute to the team he had led and thanked them all for their support during the season. On behalf of the players he also thanked  the club coaches Stewart & Robert, and backroom staff Julie Hale and Joanna Nash  all of whom  were presented with gift vouchers
Huw Bennett then presented the main awards of the evening speaking first of the friendships that can be fostered through the game of rugby and from his own experience the importance of staying together  as friends to kindle a team spirit .He wished the team every success in the future
Held over from season 2010/11 trophies were presented to Jack Sewell ( Most Improved Player 2010/11) ;  Daffyd Watkins ( Players Player 2010/11) ; Rhys Bayliss ( Player of the Year 2010/11)
For the season 2011/12 the awards were extended to include a trophy for the most won “Man the Match Awards” chosen by the opposition coaches. The first recipient to receive this trophy was Aaron Boulter.
The “Most Improved Player of the Year” was awarded to Ryan Davies
The “Players Player of the Year” was Jack Sewell
The final award of Beaufort’s “Player of the Year” which both coaches agreed had been a difficult choice to make was won by Joel Harries.   Joel had also been chosen to lead the team in the forthcoming season.
